Could the next big screen leap for WOLVERINE showcase the ballistic hero at his most vicious? Will Adamantium Claws hack their way through countless bodies, leaving a pool of blood and entrails in a mess at the floor? Maybe the Hulk will show up and snap Wolvey in two. All this and more are entirely possible for James Mangold’s upcoming THE WOLVERINE.

Hugh Jackman talks to MTV News about going darker with the franchise, suggesting that if any superhero film were to be R-Rated, it would be Wolverine. But pushing the R-Rating would lose out on the younger fans who look up to the character. Jackman and Mangold haven’t pushed the idea off the table, though, and have even considered doing two different cuts of the film: -Snikt!, Snikt!-, as it were.

There isn’t a start date yet for production on THE WOLVERINE, but Jackman assures that it’s his next project following LES MISÉRABLES. How do you feel about a possible R-Rated Wolverine?

Out on the road promoting REAL STEEL (in theaters October 7th), Hugh Jackman spoke to The Playlist regarding the status of the WOLVERINE sequel – a project that has been dealing with ongoing delays due to various issues, including Jackman’s schedule due to the upcoming LES MISERABLES.

“If it wasn’t for LES MIS we’re ready now. Now that Jim[Mangold]’s on board, we’re ready to go. For LES MIS to work, we would have had to start WOLVERINE basically, yesterday. So when we needed to press the button, we weren’t quite ready. So it will happen straight after.”

The script was originally written by Christopher McQuarrie (THE USUAL SUSPECTS), but is getting a rewrite by Mark Bomback (CONSTANTINE, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD). Despite the continued tinkering, Jackman remains confident in the project.

“When a director takes over any script they need to make it their movie. So Jim hired Mark to help him make the movie his own.” Jackman went on to say, “And I’ve got to hand it to Fox and to Jim, it’s easy when you start with the best script we’ve had from Chris McQuarrie. So once you have that, that’s 80, 85 percent of your movie.”

Based on the comics by Frank Miller’s, the flick is to be set in Japan and follows Logan as he takes on a clan of ninjas and meets his true love.

“It’s a little darker and, I think, a little more true to the character. If you read all of [the Japanese saga] there is a lot of it that is a little disparate and some of it’s got X-Men in it. There’s a wedding and all that. So we take license with that.”

Jackman also spoke a little about his amazing F-bomb cameo appearance in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS.

“They asked me to do that cameo a year before I did it and I said, ‘All right, pitch me the concept. They did and I liked it. I said, ‘Is anyone else swearing in the movie?’ and they said, ‘We don’t think so.’ I said, ‘Promise me no one else swears in the movie and I’m in.’ He went on to share an amusing anecdote regarding the shroud of secrecy around the cameo, “There was more secrecy to shooting that than I have ever known. I actually checked into the hotel and they had no reservation under Jackman. I was under some comic book name I had never even heard of.”

One cannot truly ever understand how hard it is make a film (good or bad) until he’s experienced making a film. And as I say this, I’ve only seen a fraction of the burden behind the madness.

Thus, it is with great disappointment to learn from various sites that the latest Wolverine workprint has already made its way onto the torrent sites. Despite all the commercials that deter the masses from piracy, I believe most downloaders out there are still ignorant as to how many jobs they are jeopardizing per single download, and in Wolverine’s case a crisp cut a full month before release. The consequential damages in many cases are irreparable and Fox has issued the following response to take severe action against such thefts.

Last night, a stolen, incomplete and early version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was posted illegally on websites. It was without many effects and had missing scenes and temporary sound and music. We immediately contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed. We forensically mark our content so we can identify sources that make it available or download it. The source of the initial leak and any subsequent postings will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law – the courts have handed down significant criminal sentences for such acts and the last person who committed such a crime is still in jail. The FBI and the MPAA also are actively investigating this crime. We are encouraged by the support of fansites condemning piracy and this illegal posting and pointing out that such theft undermines the enormous efforts of the filmmakers and actors, and above all, hurts the fans of the film.

View X-Men Origins: Wolverine for the first time in its intended form in theaters May 1, 2009.

The next TV spot airs Monday, February 16th during House, followed by the third TV spot on Tuesday, February 17th during American Idol. When spliced together, the TV spots will reveal a short narrative about how Wolverine came to be, something I’ve wanted to see in live action before any of the X-Men movies came out.

The first TV spot, titled “Outcasts“, features fragments from Logan’s childhood and we begin to experience the intensity of his upbringing and survivalhood. I can’t wait for tonight 2nd TV spot!

Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabretooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.

Wolverine’s origins will be revealed in theaters May 1, 2009.

20th Cenury Fox sent out a press release containing the official teaser poster for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which hits theaters everything May 1, 2009. The release is said to be the result of a fan made poster finding its way on the official Fox press site.

In X-Men Origins: Wolverine, “Hugh Jackman reprises the role that made him a superstar – as the fierce fighting machine who possesses amazing healing powers, retractable claws and a primal fury. Leading up to the events of X-Men, X-Men Origins: Wolverine tells the story of Wolverine’s epically violent and romantic past, his complex relationship with Victor Creed, and the ominous Weapon X program. Along the way, Wolverine encounters many mutants, both familiar and new, including surprise appearances by several legends of the X-Men universe whose appearances in the film series have long been anticipated” (/Film).

Sideshow Collectibles will be distributing the upcoming 1/6th scaled Logan from the unwatchable X-Men Origins: Wolverine film quickly on its way to the dusty back corner of video stores across the country.

Sideshow loves to tease so we only get a glimpse of Logan from the waist up, but what we see doesn’t disappoint. The likeness to Hugh Jackman is pretty darn close, and knowing Hot Toys fondness for retooling sculpts before a figure actually hits the shelves we can probably expect this is not the final product.

Speaking of re-sculpts, Hot Toys has posted photos of the new sculpt of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) from Terminator Salvation and the resemblance is scary. A perfect match. Head over to Cool Toy Review to check out the new pictures.

And for a larger glimpse of the 1/6th Logan stop by Sideshow, and if you haven’t already signed up for their weekly newsletter get on it. You can pre-order Logan July 9th.

According to Dark Horizons, while out on promotional affairs for The Unborn, director David Goyer tells the press that Fox is waiting on the greenlight for Magneto until after Wolverine hits theaters. Then depending on how Wolverine performs, the studio will decide on Magneto’s fate. I think there’s more of a chance Magneto will get the go ahead after Wolverine than a sequel to the Friday the 13th remake.

Goyer says that though the film begins in the WW2 concentration camp, most of the action takes place in the very early 60′s and deals with the friendship between Professor X (Charles) and Magneto (Eric).

Goyer is currently prepping for his next film, The Invisible Man redux. However in this version, the character is the nephew of the original and is forced by Scotland Yard to either work for them or be killed.

Donner reveals that Wolverine is very much “in the tone of the first X-Men,” noting she is very happy with the result and that her next task is to get crackin’ on Magneto.

“We have a great script on Magneto,” Donner tells IndieLondon. “I’ll tell you the honest truth… I’ve made four movie[s] this year and I was so busy that I didn’t at all talk to the studio while making Magneto because I couldn’t have done it. And David Goyer, who wrote and is going to direct it, also did another movie. So now, he’s done with his and I’m done with two of mine, so when I get back that’s my first order of business to say: ‘Come on, let’s go and make Magneto.’”

In regards to Wolverine, Empire debuted the first look on Taylor Kitsch as Gambit. Of the character, Hugh Jackson told MTV Splashpage, “I can say it. He’s sexy, right? He’s a little bit like a junior Wolverine in a way. He’s a little bit of a wise guy. He’s an outsider. He’s got some issues himself. He’s mischievous. He’s cheeky. He’s a bit of a badass. We have a really great fight sequence. Physically that guy is an animal. He was chucking himself around on the concrete. He has that passion that I remember having when I first did Wolverine. There was no way a stunt double was doing anything for him.”

Still waiting on the images for Deadpool’s character, played by the hot Ryan Reynolds, who also debuts in Wolverine. X-Men Origins: Wolverine arrives in theaters May 1, 2009.

The project was announced in 2007 as part of series of projects between Marvel and DelRey. More X-Men material is expected from Raina Telgemeier and Dave Roman.

TokyoPop announced at Comic Con that they will release 22 Manga based on Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft and Starcraft franchises. Debuting in August 2008 will be Starcraft: Frontline, a collection of stories, as well as the debut of the new series Warcraft: Legends. In summer 2009, one of the projects will be Starcraft: Ghost Line, written by the prolific Keith R.A. DeCandido (Supernatural).

After abandoning the Joss Whedon draft, producer Joel Silver continued seeking the right script for his Wonder Woman film. Now he saw that tyro writers Matthew Jennison and Brent Strickland are at work. Their World War II era spec script about the Amazon Princess wowed Silver so they’ve been associated with the film for over a year now. The setting may now be more about Paradise Island, a.k.a. Themyscira, and the warrior culture that gave us the heroine. Silver also intimated the George Miller Justice League film may be on hold after many delays.
