Creepy Casting

According to Variety, W star Josh Brolin (American Gangster, The Goonies) is close to sealing the deal with Warner Bros. to star in the upcoming feature adaptation of DC Comics’ Jonah Hex, written and to be directed by the Crank creators Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine. Andrew Lazar and Akiva Goldsman are producing.
Nothing has been signed yet however, and both Warner Bros. and Brolin’s reps have not officially announced the casting news. I’d love to see this go forward. I have nothing against Thomas Jane (previously thought to play the role), but Brolin’s versatility and range makes him the “chosen one” to take on Jonah Hex, arguably one of DC Comics’ best characters. Created in 1972 by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga, Hex is a disfigured veteran of the Confederate army during the American Civil War. He was sold into slavery by his father, faced his mother’s turn to prostitution, betrayed during battle, sentenced to have a searing hot tomahawk branded on his face for defending himself in a battle. Hex is one unlucky character.
