Official Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Photos

Posted by dominie in Films, News on December 29th, 2008

Empire magazine unveiled the first official images from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The explosions look intense and now we can see why Shia LeBeouf’s bum hand had to be cleared in order to resume shooting. In addition to the photos from Empire, USA Today also revealed another new batch of photos including a first look at Optimus Prime!

More plot details are also available. First Showing via USA Today revealed heavy military involvement in the plot of the sequel. Production was even granted first time access to locations that have never been shot on before.

“This time, Optimus teams up with the U.S. military to take on the evil Decepticons, who have invaded Earth to capture Sam (Shia LaBeouf). He has learned some secrets about the origins of the Transformers and their ancient history — information, it turns out, that is worth war… Humanity is still trying to sort out which Transformers can be trusted and which mean to exterminate humans. Authentic military personnel were hired to show just how they might actually handle an over-the-top situation like an alien robot invasion.”

“The U.S. Department of Defense gave its official stamp of approval to the Michael Bay-directed film, not only allowing production amid the pristine dunes of the Army’s New Mexico missile range, but also letting filmmakers follow jets and fighter planes through the sky from nearby Holloman Air Force Base. “

“They let us do the run of things,” Bay says. “We have so many military assets. Plus, this is a missile range — we can just fire into the set. It’s a great place.” And to top things off, after production completed in New Mexico, the cast and crew were allowed, for the first time in history, to film in Giza, Egypt, a 5,000 year-old pyramid site. They were no just allowed to shoot near the pyramids, but actually on them!

Again, the update doesn’t reveal too much, but at the very least, its a taste of what is to come this summer! And with so much going into the film, it’s got to be extraordinary. Directed by Michael Bay (The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers) from a script by Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, and Ehren Kruger (The Ring, The Brother Grimm, Blood and Chocolate), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen hit both IMAX and theaters on June 26, 2009!

The official Press Release below confirms that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will follow in The Dark Knight’s path.

IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX; TSX: IMX), DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures today announced that director Michael Bay will shoot key sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX(R) cameras. Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with state of the art CGI to create an unprecedented look and feel for the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box office hit, Transformers. As previously announced, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released to IMAX(R) theatres simultaneously with the movie’s wide release on June 26, 2009.

The movie sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) with IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The IMAX DMR scenes will appear in the traditional “letterbox” shape, while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

“The extraordinary level of detail and intensity captured by the IMAX camera creates many exciting possibilities for us with this film,” said Michael Bay, the film’s director. “IMAX’s all-encompassing format will take this story to a new level, and I am once again very excited to share The IMAX Experience with Transformers fans around the world.”

“The addition of another amazing title from DreamWorks and Paramount, combined with more groundbreaking use of IMAX technology by Hollywood’s top filmmakers, are examples of how far we have come as a company and a distribution platform over the past several years,” said IMAX Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. “The growth of the IMAX theatre network, fueled by the economical benefits of the new IMAX digital system, is driving interest from virtually all of the top studios, which is resulting in more IMAX movies for audiences to enjoy.”

“Michael Bay’s innovative use of IMAX cameras will create a spectacular cinematic adventure for moviegoers next summer,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We’re very excited to be integrated as a core part of the Transformers production, and with the skilled marketing and distribution teams at DreamWorks and Paramount, the timing is ideal given our expanding global audience and network footprint.”

The IMAX release of this movie was previously mentioned in IMAX Corporation’s second quarter results press release on August 7.
