Medallion Press has unveiled the cover art for Personal Demons, the first novel written by Fear Zone editor Gregory Lamberson. Personal Demons was originally published as a Limited Edition hardcover in 2004, and then as a trade paperback in 2005, by Broken Umbrella Press after winning a publishing contest, the Anubis Award for Horror, judged by famed author T.M. Wright. Although the novel received excellent reviews, it was only available on-line, like most small press books.

Following the success of their TPB of Johnny Gruesome, now in bookstores, Medallion scooped up the rights to Personal Demons, which they’ll publish in October of 2009. The new cover was created by tatoo artist Dan Plamely, who created the Johnny Gruesome cover, and Adam Mock, Medallion’s Vice President.

“I wanted a cover similar to the painted HELLBLAZER comic book covers,” says author Lamberson, “and Dan and Adam have definitely succeeded in achieving that. Personal Demons is horror-noir, and I wanted something that would suggest these different genres.”

The new edition of Personal Demons is subtitled “The Jake Helman Files,” suggesting that the novel’s protagonist will be back for future chillers. “I want this to be an ongoing series, and I’m writing the first sequel now. That subtitle is somewhat reminiscent of The Kolchak Papers, which was Jeff Rice’s original title for THE NIGHT STALKER, so I like that.”

Lamberson’s filmmaking book CHEAP SCARES! Low Budget Horror Filmmakers Share Their Secrets, is now available from McFarland & Company, and Johnny Gruesome has been nominated for a Black Quill Award. His werewolf novel, The Frenzy Way, will be published in 2010.

The film is produced by Marc Makowski, co-producer of the original, and executive produced by John Maclay, a horror writer and publisher. The film will star Debbie Rochon, Lee Perkins, Brooke Lewis, Robert Sabin, horror author Kealen Patrick Burke and Jennifer Bihl.

SCM is the survival story of two fugitives from a totalitarian government, Cory (Burke) and Alexa (Bihl), who hide out in remnants of midtown Manhattan known as Slime City, in the aftermath of a dirty bomb. When the lovers team up with two other survivors, Alice (Rochon) and Mason (Perkins), they come across more than what they’ve bargained for.

Take a look at this make-up test of Jennifer Bihl as “Alexa.”

If that didn’t snag your attention, check out what Lamberson had to say.

“This film takes the drug addiction metaphor of the original and goes much farther with it,” Lamberson explains. “We’ve multiplied the sex, violence and action of Slime City tenfold. We have radioactive skies, camps of homeless people, mercenaries and a society of cannibals. Anytime I’ve been tempted to scale things back to make shooting easier I’ve gone in the opposite direction – ‘How can we make this even bigger?’ This film is both a period piece and a futuristic, post apocalyptic film, with four creature characters instead of one.”

Lamberson plans to have the film finished by the end of the year in order to take it on the film festival circuit in 2010 when his next novels, The Frenzy Way and Desperate Souls, are published. His first three features will be released on DVD July 28.
