Last week we announced that MGM confirmed the greenlight on the remake of Tobe Hooper and Steven Spielberg’s Poltergiest. The new film, written by Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, will be helmed by Vadim Perelman who “delved into similar dynamics in his debut, 2003’s House of Sand and Fog and last year’s The Life Before Her Eyes,” reveals The Hollywood Reporter.
Variety announced that Steven Shell’s Mum & Dad, a British contemporary horror made under Film London’s Microwave scheme, has just been picked up by Revolver Entertainment for UK, Ireland, and US distribution. The synopsis: “Mum and Dad, and their ‘adopted’ children, Birdie & Elbie, work at the airport. The family live off whatever they scavenge from cargo holds, offices and hotels - including a steady stream of transient workers who populate the airport’s soulless hub. When Lena, a young Polish office cleaner, is befriended by Birdie, she gets drawn into a nightmarish world of torture, murder and perversity. Imprisoned in a suburban House of Horrors and designated a ‘Mummy’s Girl’, Lena’s only options appear to be to become part of the family - and join them in their insanity - or die.”

Ain’t it Cool News’ Mr. Beaks spoke extensively with Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, talking Friday the 13th, naturally.
The reinivisioned Jason Voorhees has been seen in sneak peek clips as a faster, less lumbering figure and Fuller commented, “What made the movie interesting for us to make is that Jason Voorhees is one of the most iconic killers to ever be put on film. And what made him interesting is that he’s methodical and unstoppable. Having said that, anything that goes away from that and makes it feel unrealistic… we wanted to move as far away from that as possible. For us, this is a guy who lives in the forest and eats what he kills. He’s in shape because he lives in the forest; he’s not lumbering around because he has to trap. That, to us, made him a more effective killer. So in our movie, as you saw from the piece we showed today… Jason is fast. He runs fast. He’s athletic. He can move.” (more…)

Audiences at Comic-Con International were treated to a first look at the remake to Friday the 13th courtesy of Platinum Dunes. The footage was gruesome as expected, but stylishly handled.
Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller took the stage along with Andrew Form, Amanda Righetti, Jared Padalecki and Derek Mears. A teaser poster was also shown for the first time. After that it was largely questions and answers from the room.
Fuller addressed remakes and sequels, saying that while this version of Friday appears finite, he subsequently said he’d like to make a sequel. As for remakes, he says after The Birds that’ll be pretty much it. He admitted to wanting to remake A Nightmare on Elm Street but has yet o sign a deal nor has he spoken with original director Wes Craven, a fact Craven confirmed minutes earlier. (more…)
