From director Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas), based on a novel by Neil Gaiman, Coraline is the story about a young girl (Dakota Fanning) who walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life – only much better. But when her adventure turns dangerous, and her counterfeit parents (including Other Mother [Teri Hatcher]) try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home – and save her family.

Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas) has been keeping busy on his latest project, the stop-motion animation feature Coraline. Selick wrote the screenplay based on Neil Gaiman’s Hugo Award-winning, international best-seller of the same name. The two have been collaborating about the film adaptation as early as 2004, 18 months before Coraline was even published. The film is scheduled for a February 2009 release.
The story is about a young girl, Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) who walks through a secret door and enters a version of her alternate life in a parallel reality. When they attempt to keep her forever, she must discover a way to return home and save her family.
Coraline is the first high-definition stop-motion animated feature to be filmed in 3-D. We can catch a glimpse of the creepy epic on Rotten Tomatoes, who has already been releasing exclusive behind-the-scenes coverage of Coraline’s development. Selick has ensured that the movie is “Scary and spooky and filled with creepy-crawler things…” and will make you scream horror.

Production for the animated sci-fi feature film, Technotise: Edit and I, has been going on for eight years now and will finally premiere in November this year. The film is the first Serbian animated feature to be created. Writer-director Aleksa Gajic first developed it as a sequel to his Technotise graphic novel.
“The plot is set in Belgrade in 2074. The main character is Edit, a female psychology student. After her sixth failure at the same university exam, she decides to have the chip installed to help her pass. From that moment, her life changes and unusual things start happening to her.”
Rumors are that the animated feature “looks far from being unoriginal, both in style and substance.” Inspiration for the graphics came from a mixture of Japanese anime and realistic drawings with static scenes, emphasized atmosphere, and authentic artistic expression. The process also included explorations in classic 2D animation and transitioned to improved 3D animation followed by vector animation.

Stan Lee may have recently turned 85 but he remains a relentless idea factory. His POW! Entertainment just signed with Rainmaker Entertainment and Brighton Partners to turn his newest creation, Legion of 5, into an animated feature film series. A full-scale licensing effort will be made for Legion to be found in comic books, video games, mobile content, and the usual merchandise.
Who is the Legion? Stan is keeping mum but may say something about them when he receives the first New York Comics Legend Award at this weekend’s New York Comic Con.
