Remains by Michael McBride
For God spared not the angels that sinned…
On May 21st, 2007, seven graduate students in Religious Studies set out from the University of Colorado in search of God. Armed with only their faith and the scriptures, they rented a small cluster of cabins on the western slope of the Rocky Mountains.
None of them were ever heard from again.
…but cast them down to hell…
On October 29th, 2009, a disarticulated femur is discovered in a mountain lion’s den. Forensic testing confirms that the bone belongs to one of the missing seven, triggering a massive search of the surrounding wilderness.
No other evidence is found.
…and delivered them into chains of darkness…
On November 13th, the families of the missing students rent the same cabins and attempt to recreate the final days of their loved ones in hopes of divining their fate. Only this time, thanks to an unusual bacterium isolated from the femur, they know where to look.
Nothing can prepare them for the truth.
…to be reserved unto judgment.
This is their story. The story of what they found, what they lost…and what Remains.
There will be a 60 day reservation period for this title with no more than 150 copies sold. We will reserve copies for customers up to January 27 or until all 150 copies are sold whichever comes first.
If you reserved your copy of Injustice, also published by Cargo Cult Press we will automatically match your number to this edition of Injustice.

The wind picks up even more, pushing me, as if it’s trying to jerk the camera away from my hands. I spin around and the camera pans across the old bus terminal and someone screams . . .
Into the city of Tel Aviv the whirlwinds come, and nothing will ever be the same.
Through a city torn apart by a violence they cannot comprehend, three disparate people—a documentary film-maker, a yeshiva student, and a psychotic fireman—must try to survive, and try to find meaning: even if it means being lost themselves. As Tel Aviv is consumed, a strange mountain rises at the heart of the city, and shows the outline of what may be another, alien world beyond. Can there be redemption there? Can the fevered rumours of a coming messiah be true?
As the city loses contact with the outside world and closes in on itself, as the few surviving children play and scavenge in the ruins, can innocence survive, and is it possible for hope to spring amid such chaos?
A potent mixture of biblical allusions, Lovecraftian echoes, and contemporary culture, The Tel Aviv Dossier is part supernatural thriller, part meditation on the nature of belief—an original and involving novel painted on a vast canvas in which, beneath the despair, humour is never absent.
Experience the last days of Tel Aviv. . . .

Thanksgiving is over. I’m sure you’re all recovering from overeating and lounging around with family and traversing the holiday crowds, I know I am. According to box office estimates a lot of you also went to the movies over the holiday weekend. The top twelve movies this weekend at the box office grossed a total of $223.7 million, second only to $232.2 million take of 2000.
Four Christmases, the Warner Brothers comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn hauled in $31.7 million over the weekend for a five day total of $46.7 million. The comedy was the only Christmas themed film to open, and one of only two scheduled to open this Christmas season.
Bolt and Twilight were virtually neck and neck over the weekend, with Disney’s Bolt edging into second place with $26.6 million. Summit Entertainments Twilight suffered a second week drop of 62.1% and a take of $26.4 million, with a two week total of $119.7 million.
Sony’s Quantum of Solace sunk to number four with $19.5 million. The latest James Bond film has grossed $142.1 million domestically and $308.3 million overseas, bringing its seventeen day total to $450.4 million.
The Fox released Australia took in $14.8 million. The Baz Luhrmann directed WWII period piece starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman has pretty much flopped with a five day take of $20 million and a budget of $130 million.
The rest of the bottom recites a little like this: In sixth was DreamWorks Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa with $14.5 million. Opening in seventh was the Jason Statham lead Transporter 3 with a $12.3 million haul for distributor Lionsgate. Universals Role Models dropped to eighth with $5.3 million. At ninth was the Miramax release of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas with a weekend total of $1.7 million and a four week total of $5.1 million on 582 screens.
And opening in tenth was Focus Features bio-pic Milk, starring Sean Penn as the first openly gay elected official Harvey Milk who was murdered in November of 1978. The Gus Van Sant directed picture took in $1.4 million on 36 screens with on-sight average of $38,361.
See you next week you crazy kids.

After the disappointing Star Wars Prequel Trilogy I had very little hope when I heard that Lucas and his team of yes men were going ahead with a new Indiana Jones movie. However, I was certain the new film would accomplish one thing if nothing more, the release of new action-figures from the original three films. Fans have been salivating for quality figures for over twenty-five years and now would be the time to re-create all our favorite scenes.
Yet, as mainstream toy interest in Indiana Jones wanes, Sideshow Collectables can still be counted on to bring us the 1/6th scaled figures we want.
Having dwelt with Hasbro’s horrible distribution-or lack there of- of their 3 ¾ line, and the impending death of said line, it’s nice to see that some companies aren’t giving up on the fans of one of the most loved trilogies-I don’t count Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and I hope you don’t either-of film history.
Sideshow’s third release in their Indiana Jones 12-inch line is Toht. Features include:
• 12-inch Prometheus male body with 30+ points of articulation
• Authentic likeness of Ronald Lacey as Major Arnold Ernst Toht
• Shirt
• Pants
• Tie
• Jacket
• Trench coat with belt
• Shoes
• Hat
• Glasses
• Switch-out melted portrait
• Interchangeable gloved and ungloved hands
• Interchangeable right hand with medallion burn
• Luger pistol
• Hot Poker
• Collapsible coat hanger w/ chain
• Display base with Indiana Jones logo
• Sideshow Exclusive: Polystone Ark of the Covenant accessory
Yes that last part is true. The exclusive Toht comes with the Ark of the Covenant! But it’s not cheap. The exclusive will suck $170 from your bank account and that’s before shipping and taxes. The regular addition is a little bit more affordable at $99. However, one does need an Ark, don’t you think? Click over to Sideshow and check it out.
Also, Cool Toy Review has posted new pictures of Hot Toys upcoming 1/6th scaled Hellboy and Ape Sapien from Hellboy II. So check those out as well, tis the season after all.
Happy Thanksgiving you crazy kids.

Twilight bled the competition at the box office over the weekend. The teen vampire movie based on the first book in Stephanie Meyer’s best selling series about a teenage girl who falls for her vampire classmate grossed an estimated $70.5 million. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke and released by the fairly new Summit Entertainment, Twilight averaged $20,636 on 3,419 screens throughout the country. With a modest budget of $37 million Summit has announced that production will soon begin on the second book in the series New Moon.
Quantum of Solace, Daniel Craig’s sophomore venture into the world of James Bond dropped 54.4% for a weekend total of $27.4 million. With a two week take of $109 million, Solace is the fastest Bond movie to cross the $100 million mark.
Opening in the third spot was Disney’s 3-D animated Bolt. Voiced by John Travolta, the film was just below Solace with $27 million on 3,651 screens.
Dropping to fourth was DreamWorks Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. Down 54.3% the film took in $16 million raising its three week total to $137.4 million.
The bottom of the top saw the Paul Rudd led comedy Role Models take in $7.2 million. With a three week take of just over $48 million the buddy comedy has nearly doubled its budget of $28 million.
The lower half roles off the page like this: Clint Eastwood’s Changeling fell 37.9% and into the sixth spot with a weekend estimate of $2.6 million. Disney’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year was seventh with $2 million. Zack and Miri Make a Porno, directed by the tired Kevin Smith, added $1.7 million for a four week total of $29.3 million and eighth place. Moving into ninth place was the Miramax produced The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which added 368 more screens to have a third weekend take of $1.67 million on 406 screens, up 252.7%. And estimated to have fallen two spots to tenth was Fox Searchlight’s The Secret Life of Bees with $1.28 million.
Hope all of you have a happy Turkey Day, and find time to get out and see some movies. See you next week.

It’s not very often that a sequel is superior to the original. In fact I have a hard time coming up with one. Most of you won’t disagree that Bride of Frankenstein is far superior to Frankenstein, both in story and production. The Terminator and Alien sequels were also a step up from the originals, but not by much considering the originals were amazing in their own regard. I won’t include X-Men and X-Men United for the simple fact that though the second installment was far better neither film did the X-Men justice. I hold Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back pretty much even, though a good amount of you will disagree. Whatever your opinion-and I’m sure all of us could come up with extensive lists and various arguments as to superior sequels-the fact is sequels usually fall far below par in many ways to their predecessors.
This summers Hellboy II was one of the few exceptions of sequel superiority. I wasn’t a fan of the first Hellboy, I thought the story was week and the characters under developed. However, Hellboy II was just plain fun. The story was more extensive and entertaining, the characters drew more on our sympathies than in the previous film and the production was top notch.
Sideshow Collectables produced a series of 1/6 scale figures for the original Hellboy, and they were decent, but figures have come a long way in the few years that have passed since Hellboy was released and like their movie counterparts the Hot Toys produced 1/6 scale Hellboy II figures look to continue the trend of sequel superiority. Distributing in the US for the Hong Kong based Hot Toys Sideshow Collectables has posted a preview of their upcoming Hellboy II 1/6 figures.
Check them out and see what you think.
