Horror Roots: Shannon Elizabeth in “JACK FROST”

Shannon Elizabeth is an either-or kind of girl when it comes to her cinema, pretty much keeping to the worlds of horror or comedy. She is working to diversify a little as of late, stepping behind the camera for FATED, a film telling the story of an accident victim with supernatural abilities, but to the world at large she is best remembered as Nadia from 1999′s AMERICAN PIE. However, before her nudie webcam tryst with co-star Jason Biggs in the biggest comedy of the 90′s, Elizabeth did the dance in a different sort of film, with a different sort of chap. A snowman, to be precise.

1997′s JACK FROST is a modern trash classic from the mind of Michael Cooney, and Elizabeth gets her first character billing in it as “Jill Metzner.” The film tells the story of the titular character, a serial killer who turns into a “mutant killer snowman” after the paddy wagon transporting him collides with a chemical truck, after which he heads to nearby Snowmonton to wreak havoc. The result is all sorts of mitten-handed mayhem, littered with puns, double entendres, and one of the most bizarre death scene set to celluloid in the offing of Elizabeth’s “Jill.”

Now, this sequence can be interpreted any number of ways, but the general consensus is that Jack was doing a little more than trying to knock poor Jill silly. The missing carrot nose, re-attached to his face after the act, doesn’t help the “this can’t be what I think it is” cause. Outside of the tub scene, Jill is relegated to the margins, mostly flirting with her boyfriend behind dad’s back.

Shannon Elizabeth, we applaud your bravery in traversing the icy depths in one of genre film’s most notorious titles. While we are pretty sure you will never discuss the merits of your JACK FROST performance in interviews, we will assume you wear the experience with inner pride. It is too bad you didn’t make the trip for JACK FROST 2 in 2000, but we understand. We’ll always have Snowmonton. And that carrot.

We saw that!
