First Good Look At Depp In “DARK SHADOWS”

Tim Burton’s DARK SHADOWS comes out May 11, and this week, Entertainment Weekly shared the first close-up look at star Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins and Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth Collins Stoddard in their 2012 movie preview issue. The film also stars Eva Green, Jonny Lee Miller, Helena Bonham Carter, Gulliver McGrath, Chlose Grace Moretz, and Jackie Earle Haley. This is the first we’ve seen from the film since the studio released an official picture, and some on-set shots were leaked.

Synopsis (courtesy Warner Bros.):
“In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family. Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet-or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy…until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.”

  1. Sharon Fauming says:

why is helena b. carter so often in Johnny Depp movies? I don’t care that much for her but I really like him. would love for her to go her own way.

    • Britt says:

Yes, well, she is married to Tim Burton, the director of several movies that feature them both. Neither Tim nor Helena had anything to do with the pirate movies, though!

    • Joe says:

Helena B Carter is married to Tim Burton. Depp and Helena are together in Burton’s movies.

  2. Malcolm Gittins says:

the more I see and learn about this…not gonna see it..another needless remake…besides Depp looks like a “Twilight’ vampire..UGH!

  3. J Astro says:

I would like for Helena Bonham Carter to go MY way… yowza.

  4. Irinetta says:

Well, I think she’ll make a wonderful Dr. Hoffman. Its kind of weird little part that threw Grayson Hall to the forefront in soaps even though she wasn’t young or particularly pretty.
Eva Green as Angelique? Looks promising.
Michelle Pfeiffer as Elizabeth is daunting. I find it hard to believe that she is that old. Joan Fontain was at the end of career when she did this. And wasn’t she Olivia DeHavillan’s sister(real Life) Olivia is best remembered as Melanie Wilkes in GWTW!
I tolerated Twilight – the Kindred , The Embraced was better as a vampire story.
Lara Parker (original Angelique ) writes Dark Shadows books here in TN – and has a heck of a website.
Will I go to see it? Sure , just to see if they can pull it off. My money is on they can.

  5. Mike says:

Okay – why did they make Depp look like that? Barnabas/Depp walks up to the door of Collinwood, introduces himself as the long-lost relative from England and they welcome him without questioning the fact that he looks like a walking corpse? Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh!

  6. SNAlien says:

Well, vampires tend to look like walking corpses, so not much he can do about that. Who said they weren’t questioning it?
