
Actor and director Stocker Fontelieu was a fixture on the New Orleans theatrical scene for over 50 years. He had a brief, but memorable, role in the 1987 demonic noirish thriller Angel Heart, as occultist Ethan Krusemark, who has his head shoved into a cauldron of boiling gumbo. Mickey Rourke starred as private detective Harry Angel, and Robert DeNiro was his sinister client Louis Cyphre.
Fontelieu was born in New Orleans on May 5, 1923. He began his career on the local stage after serving in the Army during World War II. He also appeared frequently in film and television productions shot in the area. He was featured as Father Babbin in the 1972 cult slasher film Night of the Strangler starring Mickey Dolenz of the Monkees. He also had a small role in the 1973 James Bond film Live and Let Die with Roger Moore as 007. He was also seen in Brian DePalma’s Obsession (1976), the low-budget sci-fi thriller The Brain Machine (1977), and Paul Schrader’s Cat People remake starring Nastassja Kinski and Malcolm McDowell. He appeared in the 2004 tele-film adaptation of Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein with Parker Posey and Vincent Perez.
Fontelieu died of complications from pneumonia in a New Orleans nursing home on December 14, 2009, at age 86.
