Blind Side Side Swipes New Moon

1 SHEET MASTER_TemplateAnother movie viewing weekend is behind us. As always, the post-Thanksgiving shopping craze has dampened box office numbers, both in attendance and revenue – not that there was really much going on at theatres this week anyway.

The Blind Side easily eclipsed the waning New Moon to become the top grossing film of the week with $20 million. With the smallest decline at 49%, The Blind Side has tackled $129 million in just 17 days. New Moon, on the other hand, dropped 63.7%. Though a monster hit with $255.6 million domestically, the crazed teenage girl fan base that makes up most of the film’s attendance seems to have had their fill. Moon grossed $15.7 million.

The war-at-home drama Brothers, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and Tobey Maguire debuted in 3rd with a so-so $9.7 million. The Disney animated A Christmas Carol followed with $7.5 million. With $115 million in revenue in just over a month it is safe to say the $200 million motion capture film has tanked. Maybe this will convince Robert Zemeckis to return to live action directing.

Old Dogs barely beat out the new Armored. Dogs declined 59.2% with $6.9 million. Whereas Armored snored into theatres with $6.6 million, virtually tying Sony’s 2012 which also grossed $6.6 million, though the tie might break when final numbers are released later today.

Ninja Assassin saw a significant 62.2% drop with $5 million, followed by the continuing decline of Planet 51 with $4.3 million.

And the Robert DeNiro lead Everybody’s Fine tanked with $4 million. Could someone please call Martin Scorsese and convince him to help Mr. DeNiro re-kindle his fading career?

That’s all for this week you crazy kids, be sure to check out Box Office Mojo for all the outlandish box office facts.
