New Moon Stays on Top

Ninja AssassinNot many films could suffer a 70% drop and still manage over $40 million. The Twilight Saga: New Moon is one such movie that did. Remaining number one, New Moon grossed $42.5 million its second weekend in release. In two weeks the sequel has managed a howling $230.6 million stateside and a worldwide total of $473.6 million. Kinda makes my stomach turn a little.

The next two spots didn’t change from last week either. The feel good film of the season, John Lee Hancock’s The Blind Side, saw a ticket sales increase of 17.6%, tackling $40.1 million, raising its total to just over $100 million. 2012 clung to third with $18 million. Though not performing terribly well domestically, the disaster film has a worldwide total of $590 million.

Old Dogs proved to reveal no new tricks for stars John Travolta and and Robin Williams. The Buena Vista release opened with $16.8 million, earning just over $24 million since its release last Wednesday. Whereas another Buena Vista release, A Christmas Carol, was up 30% its fourth weekend with $16 million.

The kick-ass man film of the season, Ninja Assassin, cut into the box office with $13.1 million. The $40 million Warner Brothers picture has grossed $21 million since Thursday.

Sony’s animated sci-fi comedy Planet 51 was down 17% with 10.2 million. The $70 million feature has failed to find an audience, with a two week take of $28 million.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox jumped from 24th to 9th with $7.02 million. Precious barely beat out the Wes Anderson directed adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic with $7.09 million.

And rounding out the Thanksgiving weekend was The Men Who Stare at Goats with $1.5 million.

I hope everyone had a fangtacular Thanksgiving. As always check out Box Office Mojo for all the crazy stats your mind can handle. Until next week you crazy kids.
