Italian actor Luciano Stella, who usually performed under the screen name Tony Kendall, starred as super spy Joe Walker, aka Kommisar X, in a series of action films in the 1960s. He frequently teamed with actor Brad Harris, as Police Captain Tom Rowland, in such films as Kiss Kiss, Kill Kill (1966), Death Is Nimble, Death Is Quick (1966), Agent Joe Walker: Operation Far East (1966), Kill Me Gently” (1967), Kommisar X – Drei Blaue Panther (1968), Three Golden Serpents (1969), and FBI Operation Pakistan (1971).
Stella was born in Rome on August 22, 1936, and began his film career in the late 1950s. He was featured as Quinto Fabio in the 1963 sword and sandal feature Brennus, Enemy of Rome, and was seen in Mario Bava’s supernatural classic What! (aka The Whip and the Flesh) (1963) with Christopher Lee.
Kendall was also featured in such films as the murder mystery Hyena of London (1964), The Masked Man Against the Pirates (1964), Serenade for Two Spies (1965), The Three Fantastic Supermen (1967). He also starred in Amando de Ossorio’s tale of zombie Knights Templar, Return of the Blind Dead (1973), and faced a murderous Lorelie in When the Screaming Stops (1974). He co-starred with Paul Naschy in the 1976 sci-fi film The People Who Own the Dark, and starred in 1977′s Yeti: The Giant of the 20th Century.
Kendall died after a long illness in a Trigoria, Rome, Italy, hospital on November 28, 2009, at age 73.
