Tsunami Washes Damon Into Hereafter

matt damonNearly 2 months ago, we told you that Clint Eastwood’s next film would be Hereafter, a supernatural thriller starring Matt Damon. And while details about the plot of this new project have been a pretty well-kept secret, First Showing reports that there’s now a few more details to be had!

The plot of Hereafter will, to some degree, center around the Asian tsunami of 2004. It follows three distinct storylines that will come together as the story progresses. One is that of a reporter, played by French actress Cecile de France, who suffers a near-death experience during the disaster. Lyndsey Marshal, who portrayed Cleopatra in HBO’s Rome, will play a drug-addicted single mother who loses her son in a car accident. Damon’s character is described as a “reluctant psychic,” a man who can communicate with the dead – “but prefers not to.”

Well, there’s the Sixth Sense comparison the Warners have made. Hopefully it won’t have the same twist ending.

I think it’s pretty safe to be excited about this. Clint Eastwood directing Matt Damon in a script by Frost/Nixon‘s Peter Morgan, with Steven Spielberg producing… that’s a Hollywood powerhouse that I most certainly will not be missing. What’s more, now that we’ve got some plot details, it sounds like a very unique take on the psychological thriller genre, and it’s certainly new territory for Eastwood to move into.
