As the 2009 American Film Market winds down, we bring you promos of several more horror films. In an increasingly saturated market of horror, I must say the overall production value on these compared to years past are catching up and filmmakers are finding more inventive ways to scare. See below for The Intruder and Phobos.
Directed by “James” Thanadol Nualsuth and “Ping” Thammanoon Sakulbunthanom, The Intruder is a snake-filled creature feature absent of elephants with a clever mix of CGI, rubber, and real snakes all around.
Synopsis: In 1983 before the giant Suvarnabhumi international airport was built, the neglected and unoccupied area was called “King Cobra Swamp” by the locals. As building commenced, a huge old Banyan tree blocked the constructions path. A work crew call in a mechanical digger to remove the tree. As the roots are torn from the ground 1000s of cobra bones explode from the earth tearing them to pieces. After the passing of the grim massacre, witnesses who survived tell strange stories about and evil Cobra spirit. Years later when a new apartment block was built on the ground, Nin, the buildings owner has to face the horrifying matter when hundreds of Cobra hell bent on killing every living person in the apartment appear. People believe that again it is the vengeance of the Spirit. How will they survive, when being hunted by vengeance without mercy.
Phobos, directed by Oleg Assaulin, comes to us from Russia, about a group of young teens locked in an underground bunker who must now face their ultimate fears in order to be set free.
Synopsis: Rainy summer evening – young people are arriving at the new trendy club named Phobos which is still under construction or re-construction – since it’s a former bomb shelter which is reconstructed to become a club. At first, the partiers sees nothing wrong, but soon the bunker doors turn out to be locked, and the teenagers get trapped underground without light and communication. None of them realize how dangerous their situation is. All of them will need to cope with their fears before the bunker will let them free.
