You'll Never Guess Who's Sinking Berg's Battleship

It seems that the creatives behind Pete Berg’s upcoming Battleship film have realized how ridiculous it is to make a movie out of a board game… and, so, have taken the concept so far in the opposite direction that it boggles the mind. LatinoReview has the first scoop yet on who, exactly, will be fighting in the big-screen adaptation of Hasbro’s naval warfare game. So, what two nations will be duking it out on the high seas?

Um… humans, and… (wow, I can’t believe I’m even saying this) aliens. Yep. I think I can speak for all of us here at FM when I say we never, ever saw that coming. I suppose in an increasingly international film market, it’s tough to pick two real countries to pit against one another; somebody’ll always get pissed when they have to be the bad guys. But aliens? Really? I can’t imagine a situation where aliens invade and we have to fight them on the oceans. Why did they bring boats? Why aren’t they just swooping in on flying saucers? Or maybe they are, and we’ll have ship-to-spaceship combat. Hell, maybe the ocean will be abandoned altogether and we’ll have a futuristic fight between space battleships. I can’t imagine what this means, honestly… except that it will look almost nothing like this:
