Zach Galifianakis Ain't No Puss

But he may be Humpty Dumpty!

HumptyThat’s right folks, according to THR, Zach Galifianakis is in talks to join the DreamWorks Animation project Puss In Boots.

With Shrek Forever After coming out in May… it only makes sense that DreamWorks is working on the next installment to the franchise.  One can only go so far with the ill-tempered ogre and loveable donkey, but what is the potential for their secondary characters?

Puss in Boots would be not only a Shrek spinoff, but a prequel as well. It would tell the tale of Puss’ life leading up to the second movie, before he ever met up with Shrek and Donkey.  Tom Wheeler is writing the screenplay and Chris Miller (Shrek The Third) will be directing while Antonio Banderas will continue voicing the fencing feline and Salma Hayek is attached to voice “Kitty”.

Galifianakis2But back to Zach.  With his stellar role in the summer’s $461 million hit The Hangover, Galifianakis has managed to pick up several interesting roles.  In addition to his negotiations to voice the infamous Humpty Dumpty, Galifianakis has joined the cast of Warner Bros.’ Due Date (opposite Robert Downey Jr.), Focus Features’ It’s Kind of a Funny Story, as well as the Paramount/DreamWorks/Spyglass comedy Dinner for Schmucks. Warners has also announced a sequel for The Hangover that is scheduled for the summer of 2011.

In television news, Bored to Death (Jonathan Ames’ offbeat HBO comedy with Zach Galifianakis) has been renewed for a second season.
