Dan Akroyd To Steal Pic-A-Nic Baskets?

yogi-bearIf the idea of a live-action Yogi Bear movie sounds like a good idea to you, then there’s no talent news I can give you that’ll convince you otherwise. Still, it’s worth noting that it’s coming from the director of Journey to the Center of the Earth and the writer that brought us this.

That’s right; Eric Brevig has been handed the reigns to this latest live-action Hanna-Barbera adaptation. He will be directing a script written by Brad Copeland, whose only feature screenplay before this was 2007′s Wild Hogs. This is a complete staff change from the earliest announcements about Yogi, when Surf’s Up director Ash Brannon was supposed to shoot a script from Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia. It’s interesting to note that, as the writers behind the Ben Affleck/James Gandolfini “comedy” Surviving Christmas and the men who put The Rock in fairy wings, Sternin and Ventimilia may be the only writing team from whom Copeland is a significant upgrade.

The ill-conceived comedy about two bears snatching tourists’ lunches in Jellystone Park is currently seeking actors to drag down along with it. Dan Akroyd, whose career has declined to guest spots on According To Jim, is in talks to play the titular ursa major, while his minor compadre, Boo-Boo, will be voiced by the multitalented Justin Timberlake. Anna Faris will continue to be impossibly cute, I’m sure, as a documentary filmmaker taping the picnic basket-loving duo. Honestly, I think I’d rather just watch Grizzly Man… I doubt Yogi will be able to top the ending.
