Drug Dealers, Miniguns & Super-Predators

predatorI’ve made it no secret that Robert Rodriguez’s Predator project is one of the little blips on the horizon that has my mouth watering.  So any information I can glean on the thing ahead of time is a beautiful way to whet my appetite.  And while I don’t have access to the Predators screenplay, I do have access to the next best thing – a video script review by somebody who’s read it!

Latino Review got ahold of Rodriguez’s script, and only had glowing things to say.  Evidently, the new movie will be “bloody, violent, hard-R” stuff, and a “worthy sequel to Predator.”  Take that, AVP 2.

Predators follows a man who gets kidnapped off a roof by Predators and parachuted into a dense jungle on their homeworld.  There, he meets other humans who have been similarly snatched and dropped into the harsh environment.  They all appear to be various sizes and shapes of badass, from an uzi-wielding Mexican drug dealer to a hulking Russian with a minigun to a possible serial killer.  Soon enough, it becomes clear that they have been unwittingly brought in to stock a Predator game preserve, and will now be tracked and (in some cases) killed by zealous alien hunters.

If the group of human victims sounds badass, they’re nothing compared to their new pursuers.  The villains in this new installment, appropriately called Super-Predators, sound like they’ll put their brethren from previous films to shame.  Basically, the Super-Predators seem to be what would happen if a Predator ate nothing but HGH and protein shakes for three years straight.

There’s also mention of a potential cameo, which LR saw fit to spoil in much the same way Variety and The Hollywood reporter did the Zombieland cameo.  Knowing about it makes me want to see the movie all the more – but still, it would have been more enjoyable were I given the opportunity to go in blind.  So, you’ve been warned: the semi-spoiler is near the end of the video.  To their credit, the way LR chooses to tell you who the cameo is was both appropriate and extremely enjoyable.

After reading the script, these guys are pretty pumped about Predators and now I am too.  I was worried it would become a mild, neutered PG-13 shadow of the brilliant ’80s action that is the Arnold Schwarzenegger original.  Apparently, this is far from the truth – and it’s a damned good thing, too.
