Damon and Eastwood Take a Trip Into the Hereafter

6Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, Letters From Iwo Jima… Clint Eastwood’s films have always been grounded in reality. His next project, though, appears to be a stab in the supernatural direction, according to Variety. The film will be released under Warner Bros, and while they’re keeping the logline a deadly secret for the time being, execs have described Hereafter as “a thriller in the vein of The Sixth Sense.”

Matt Damon, who worked with Eastwood on the Nelson Mandela/rugby story Invictus, opening Dec 11, has also signed on for Hereafter, marking his second film in a row with the verteran director. The script was provided by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), who will also exec produce along with Steven Spielberg.

Normally, my go-to line on this would be, “the only thriller in the vein of The Sixth Sense we need is, y’know, The Sixth Sense.” But Eastwood is a name I learned to trust in my earliest film junkie days, and Matt Damon has certainly more than proved himself as a commanding lead. Throw into the mix an Academy Award-winning screenwriter and the fact that the last time Spielberg and Eastwood worked together, they made two of the best Vietnam movies in recent memory – and yeah, I think you’ve got something I can safely be excited for.
