Literature Review; Pressure by Jeff Strand

“They first met in boarding school—Alex, shy and nervous, and Darren, constantly scribbling in his journal. They became best friends in college. Alex always knew Darren was a little odd. He didn’t know his friend was murderously insane until Darren asked Alex to join him in his blood-soaked fun. They could be a team, hunting and slaughtering human prey. Alex doesn’t want any part of it. He’s no monster. But Darren is twisted, deadly…and determined. And he won’t take no for an answer.”

Jeff Strand’s critically acclaimed Pressure is to be released by Leisure Books in June of this year. Before I get to my review I have a few words for you. Don’t wait, use the above links and preorder this book now.

Jeff Strand reaches down deep into the human condition and brings us a horrifying dark tale of a friendship gone horribly wrong.

Do you really know the people around you? Are you comfortable in their presence? Do you trust them? Just how far are you willing to go to protect your family?

Jeff Strand answers these questions and more.

Monsters don’t always live in coffins, haunted houses, the deep woods and the ocean depths. There are plenty of monsters that walk on two feet in the light of day. They go to school or work each day, have families and friends. And that my friends is even more terrifying.

With his first person narrative, Strand moves you along at a blistering pace. The action is taut and the mayhem merciless. At times you will feel very uncomfortable and at times you will have to stop and catch your breath before you turn the next page.

What are we as human beings capable of? A lot, I am afraid and Strand shows just how far we can go and it is not pretty.

This is the best psychological thriller I’ve read in quite a while. Once you start you will not be able to put it down and I highly recommend it.
