THR reports that Casey Affleck and Jessica Alba have been cast for Michael Winterbottom’s (A Mighty Heart, The Road to Guantanamo) remake adaptation of The Killer Inside Me based on the novel from noir author Jim Thompson who’s been praised The New York Times as the “best suspense writer going, bar none.”
His novel was first adapted to film in 1976 starring Stacy Keach and has since spawned several other remakes.
Killer tells the chilling downward spiral of Lou Ford, the deputy sheriff of a small town in Texas. “The worst thing most people can say against him is that he’s a little slow and a little boring. But then, most people don’t know about the sickness—the sickness that almost got Lou put away when he was younger. The sickness that is about to surface again.”
Affleck will play the role of the sheriff and Alba plays a prostitute.
MuseFilm’s Chris Hanley, Cyclone Prods.’ Robert Weinbach, Revolution Films’ Andrew Eaton and Bradford Schlei are producing the latest adaptation, which was written by Weinbach and John Curran.
Filming begins in mid January and worldwide sales will be in the care of Wild Bunch.
