Fangoria reported today that Anchor Bay Entertainment has acquired distribution rights to director Rob Schmidts’ (Wrong Turn) serial-killer movie, The Alphabet Killer. The film marks Eliza Dushku and Schmidts’ second collaboration after Wrong Turn five years prior. The Alphabet Killer will premiere at LA’s Screamfest on October 18 followed by a limited theatrical release in December and an official DVD release in 2009.
Based on a true story, The Alphabet Killer “stars Eliza Dushku as Megan, a police investigator on the trail of the titular killer, a real-life murderer who struck in and around Rochester, NY, between 1971 and 1973. He got his name because the first letter of his victims’ first and last names was the same as the first letter of the town their bodies were found in. The deeper she gets in the case, the more her grip on reality loosens” (Dread Central).
“The Alphabet Killer is a special, strange little movie, a supernatural thriller in the tradition of Shock Corridor, with the best performance of Eliza Dushku’s career,” Schmidt tells Fangoria. “She really has nice support from horror heroes Tom Noonan, Bill Moseley and Michael Ironside in the movie. I look forward to working with Anchor Bay to get the creepy and sad world of Alphabet Killer out to audiences. I’m really pleased with the work we did.”
