Variety reports that Michael De Luca has teamed up with Alison Resonzweig and Michael Gaeta (Disney’s Matadors) to remake the 1987 classic supernatural thriller Angel Heart. The producers acquired the remake rights for the original film, as well as William Hjortsberg’s Falling Angel, the novel from which the original movie was adapted, from a private UK firm.
Josh Bratman, the executive producer behind Metal Gear Solid (2009) will executive produce the remake.
The original Angel Heart starred Robert De Niro, Mickey Rourke, and Lisa Bonet in a tale about “a New York detective [Harry Angel (Rourke) who is] hired by a mysterious client (De Niro) to track down a once-popular performer indebted to him. While pursuing this seemingly routine investigation, Harry encounters dark and supernatural forces.”
According to Bloody-Disgusting, another remake is in the works—that of indie film 13 Tzameti. The remake was first announced in October 2006, that the original creator French director Géla Babluani would write and director the remake himself, now titled simply 13. Casting is currently underway and shooting begins in November in New York. Sam Riley (Control) has already been cast to play lead Vince Perro.
The original tales follows “a naive young man [who] assumes a dead man’s identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men.”
