Zack Snyder Signs With EA to Make Video Games

Director of Famous Monsters, Simone Bartesaghi, tipped us on some exciting news today. If the trend persists, I see a potential rivalry between both arenas that could revolutionize our standards in quality films and video games!
It’s no longer a matter of crossing bridges, video games and movies are becoming one big industry with players shifting from one side to the other. It started with video games being so good in the story telling arena that filmmakers wanted to tell those stories to a broader audience (Silent Hill, Resident Evil) and now visionary directors are crossing the line to tell their stories through the powerful engaging technology of the video games.
This territory will not be unfamiliar to EA, who has already been in collaboration with Steven Spielberg in a development deal that recently launched Boom Blox for the Nintendo Wii, and currently working on various other developments.
Another notable crossover includes director James Wan (Saw) who directed the trailer for the video game Dead Space. Now it’s time for Mr. Zack (300) Snyder to join the video game world. The director of the highly expected and controversy Watchmen has signed a deal to develop three original games for Electronic Arts. EA will own the intellectual properties, with the option for Snyder’s Cruel & Unusual Films banner to produce film adaptations using the properties. In an interview at the Comic Con 2008, Snyder said that he is very excited about this new venture and that “a dialogue needs to be established between filmmakers and game producers.”
