The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Kirsten Dunst is staring in Paramount Vantage’s new literary horror titled, A Jealous Ghost, based on the novel by A.N. Wilson of the same title.  One has to wonder how she landed this deal?!  Oh right… Dunst is producing the film along with Film 360’s Ben Forkner, Eric Kranzler, and Daniel Rappaport.

Paramount Vantage has put a high priority on this developing literary horror in an effort to reshape its image.  The screenplay written by Megan Holley (Sunshine Cleaning) will be ready to go after one more short pass and Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego (named as one of THR’s 10 Latino filmmakers to watch) is attached to helm the project.  Lopez-Gallego is no stranger to the genre.  King of the Hill sound familiar?  The survival thriller, co-written by Lopez-Gallego was also his first directorial feature, and has had everyone talking since the 2007 TIFF including the Weinstein brothers who have acquired the rights for Stateside distribution (still TBA 2008).

In the movie, Dunst will star as a young American woman who travels to London to write her dissertation on the 1898 classic ghost tale, The Turn of the Screw by revered American writer Henry James.  Dunst’s attempt to determine what exactly is the nature of evil within the tale spirals into a story of her own survival when she finds herself immersed into similar circumstances in that of James’ original told world.   A Jealous Ghost will mark Dunst’s first major comeback into the supernatural role since her childhood role in Interview With the Vampire (1994).
