Aja Needs More Time, Piranha 3-D Delayed!

It looks like Alex Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Mirrors) is adamant about taking his time on this one. Last month, Aja’s Piranha 3-D (penned by himself with partner Gregory Levasseur) went through revisions under Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunston, creators of Feast III and Saw IV-V. Melton and Dunston’s contract was termed for two weeks with production still hard on schedule for its July 24, 2009 release. Shock Till You Drop just received news however; this may no longer be the case. Aja has delayed principle photography for Piranha 3-D until March or April 2009.
According to Shock’s sources, “The reason for the delay was the size of the project and the prep work needed to execute Aja’s 3-D visuals. ‘There just wasn’t enough time for pre-production to get it done in time. It’s all about pre-production and trying to make it the best it can be.’”
We can’t argue with that statement, but this means sticking to their highly paraded July summer release date may be scantly out of reach.
