Deadpit.com broke the news that the 1981 telefilm Dark Night of the Scarecrow is finally bound for DVD. Image Entertainment will be releasing the film in 2009 with details yet to be revealed.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow aired just once, October 24, 1981, and left an indelible impression on viewers so this will be a real treat to experience all over again.  The film toplined television veteran Charles Durning and Lane Smith but told the story of a mentally handicapped man (a pre-LA Law Larry Drake) accused of attacking a girl.  The farm community hunts down the man who tries to hide by fitting himself into a scarecrow’s outfit out in a field.  He’s found, of course, and killed then given a pitchfork to make it appear as if it was a matter of self-defense.  Shortly thereafter, members of the mob are slowly picked off by someone using that very same pitchfork.
