Wes Craven Talks Remake

Wes CravenWes Craven likes to stay busy as seen by his current slate of projects.  He told ShockTillYouDrop.com that after the remake of Last House on the Left and 25/8, he and Rogue Pictures are likely to tackle a remake of his 1991 film The People Under the Stairs.

“It will be a remake, not directed by me, but something Marianne Maddalena will produce after she completes The Last House on the Left,” he told the site. Both films in the works will be out in 2009.

He explained that the first film’s class warfare subtext was a product of its time and the remake will also reflect current issues. “[It] was written during the initial Bush administration where there was a coldness to the plight of the poor and, in some ways we’ve gone through that with son now. But he’s come to the end of his administration. If we have Obama in office? I don’t know if there’s going to be that same feeling. For all we know, he’s going to be great to the poor.”

In the original production, two thieves head from the city to the ‘burbs to pilfer from their landlord’s home.  What they find inside, though, is something unimaginably horrible.
