A long weekend has meant big bucks for Hancock. Including Tuesday night’s preview, the film earned an estimated $107,321,000, Will Smith’s second biggest opening. Despite mediocre reviews, he appears to have developed Teflon along with super-strength.
Slipping into second place, dropping a mere 47%, was Wall*E, compacting $33,417,000 this weekend for a total of $128,132,000 while stole $20,607,000, down 59%, totaling $90,775,000.
Marvel/Paramount’s The Incredible Hulk took in $4,975,000 with a cumulative total of $124,917,000 meaning it may finish up at just about the same place as the Ang Lee edition.
Finally, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull cracked the $300 million club, with a total of $306,590,000 after seven weeks. Iron Man stays narrowly ahead with a cumulative total of $311,758,000 exceeding all expectations.
Other genre films hung on with The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian grabbing a mere $573,000, nearing the end of its run with a total of $138,780,000. 20th Century-Fox is clearly disappointed with rapidly running out of steam with just a haul of $62,077,000. Rogue’s The Strangers finishes strong with a total of $51,990,000, which is a nice return on the $9 million budget.
