The website could also find no additional information about the film at IMDB, with Thirlby still attached or elsewhere. The film was to be written and directed by Bradley Rust Gray (Hitch) which at one point had a June 2008 release date.  Werewolf-movies.com confirms IMDB’s  note that the film has shifted to 2010 with no details. Frank Miller at Work on New 300 Material

Posted by bob in Films, News on June 30th, 2008

300 Leonides & XerxesFrank Miller will be returning to Greece as he is now confirmed for writing a graphic novel exploring what happened after theevents of 300.  Zack Snyder has said he will be happy to direct the sequel for Legendary Pictures.

Variety reports Miller is writing the graphic novel for an undetermined publisher, although that’s likely to be Dark Horse where 300 first saw print.

“The vision of Frank Miller’s universe that Zack Snyder brought to the screen in 300 is unlike anything ever seen before,” Legendary president Thomas Tull told the paper. “We want to be certain that the story originates with Frank and be as compelling as the first.”

Don’t expect this any time soon given Miller’s other commitments in film and comic books.  First, he has to complete his directorial debut with The Spirit, coming from Lionsgate on Christmas Day.  He’s also said to be at work on a Sin City sequel.  For comics, he also needs to complete Holy Terror, Batman, a story involving the Middle East and terrorists.  Snyder also goes from Watchmen right into the animated film Guardians of Ga’Hoole, which was just given a July 9, 2010 release date.

Some scheduling changes of note include Inkheart moving to January 9, 2009.  Sony Animation has decided to totally avoid DreamWorks’ Monsters vs. Aliens and their Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs goes from March 27 to January 15 but that places it close to Hoodwinked 2: Hood Vs. Evil. The 3-D Hotel Transylvania has experienced a delay and leaves 2009 entirely for an undeclared 2010 date.

Guardians of Ga’Hoole from director Zach Snyder (Watchmen) has staked out a July 9, 2010 release date.

Vampire Hunter D Comics from Devil’s Due

Posted by bob in Comics, News on June 30th, 2008

Vampire Hunter DAlso at WizardWorld Chicago, Devil’s Due announced it has picked up the rights to create a new Vampire Hunter D miniseries, American Wasteland. DDP president Josh Blaylock will cowrite the event and he spoke with ComicMix (http://www.comicmix.com/) about the project.

“I think there’s something cool about him that transcends,” Blaylock said of the character created by Hideyuki Kikuchi.. “It has a very hardcore fan following who are very faithful to the Manga and the anime. In the ’80s there were only a few anime you could get a hold of, especially edgy animation. As a comic book fan, you craved that type of content but there was only so much you could get. There was Vampire Hunter D, Fist of the North Star… and D was this crazy, short cut-and-dry story that I got into way back when. It just seemed like it would be a lot of fun to do a Westernized take on him. I’m not talking about changing the look of the character drastically or anything like that, though.” (more…)

More Scary Stuff from Avatar

Posted by bob in Comics, News on June 30th, 2008

Wolfskin 1William Christensen, editor-in-chief of Avatar Press announced several new horror titles by some of the biggest names in comic books. At WizrdWorld Chicago, he said Garth Ennis will be writing Crossed, a ten issue miniseries with art by Jacen Burrows. The series will debut in October using the tagline, “There are no heroes.”

“It’s not a zombie story, but it is a story about how a large amount of humanity has just become evil personified. Their motivation is just to do evil to people who are not like them,” Christensen told a packed room. “They have all the qualities of humans. It’s bleak, it’s depressing, it’s really, really terrifying. Garth’s on fire, and it’s going to be one of those things like Preacher that people are going to be talking about in 15 years.”

Warren Ellis, an Avatar mainstay, will see his Doktor Sleepless collection out  also in October.  The book will include the first eight issues while the ninth, with a new story arc, arrives in August.

Anna Mercury, described on Avatar’s website as “a woman who can cloud men’s minds, leap across buildings as if weightless, unerringly fire twin automatic pistols in the most insane conditions, and disappear in a crowded room” will be back for a second five issue miniseries for early 2009, written by Ellis.

There will also be a new Wolfskin series from Ellis, a six-issue called Hundredth Dream, with art by Gianluca Pagliarani, and cowritten with Mike Wolfer.

Avatar is teaming with Random House to release the Zombie Survival Guide Recorded Attacks, written by Max Brooks, son of Mel.  Brooks has already written Zombie Survival Guide which Avatar will also release.  Actual dates have not been announced.
