Matthew Vaughn, the director who deserved better when Stardust debuted last summer, is adapting another comic for the screen. He has signed to write and direct an adaptation of Kick-Ass, a Marvel comic from their Max imprint. The series, by Mark Millar (Ultimates) and John Romita Jr. (Amazing Spider-Man) attempts to tell the story of what might happen when a teen dons a mask and tries to fight crime. The first issue debuted in March and was a successful seller.
Warner Bros. has given a green light to a Jonah Hex script from Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank). While not exactly horror, when handled by writer Joe Lasndale and artist Timothy Truman, Hex veered right into the creep zone for two miniseries, Two-Gun Mojo and Riders of the Worm and Such. Still, the antihero, created back in 1972 by John Albano and Tony DeZuniga, is one of the best characters created for DC Comics.
The option was announced last year and shooting may begin before this year is out although no dates have been set. Meantime, the screenwriters got to work on the Crank sequel next month.
